UPDATE: Police have detained a suspect following an attempted burglary today at Colombian Emeralds inside Bridgetown Duty Free.

————————————————————————-

An attempted burglary at Colombian Emeralds inside Bridgetown Duty Free earlier today has forced the closure of the mall for the remainder of the day.

Security officials confirmed there was an attempt, though details remain limited.

It is still unconfirmed if there were any injuries or whether the assailants made off with any valuables.

Witnesses at the scene reported seeing a barefoot man leaving the store with a bag wrapped around his neck. He was seen dashing past the Norman Centre and turning into Swan Street.

While Bridgetown Duty Free and the neighbouring CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank have both closed their doors in response to the incident, several other stores in the area remain open.

A manager at the location said they would not be commenting at this time.

More information will be shared as it becomes available.
