Police are searching for escaped prisoner Bruce Chandler, who fled the holding cells at Central Police Station around 1:40 p.m. on Monday, June 23, 2025.

Chandler, who has no fixed place of abode, had been remanded to the Barbados Prison Service (Dodds) and was expected to remain in custody until Monday, July 21.

He is described as approximately five feet eight inches tall, slim built, and of dark complexion. At the time of his escape, Chandler was wearing an off-white blue shirt and long blue jeans.

The Barbados Police Service (TBPS) is appealing to the public for assistance in locating him. Anyone with information on Chandlerโ€™s whereabouts is asked to contact CID personnel at Central Police Station at 430-7189 or 430-7190, Police Emergency at 211, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477, or the nearest police station.

Authorities are also reminding the public that harbouring or assisting a wanted person is a serious offence and may result in prosecution.

Police apologise for mistaken identity

The Barbados Police Service has issued a public apology to Barry Chandler and the public after an error in a bulletin released on Wednesday, June 25th.

The initial release stated that Barry Chandler had escaped police custody while being transferred from the cells at Central Police Station to Dodds Prison. It was later confirmed that it was in fact his twin brother, Bruce Chandler, who had escaped.

In a statement, the Police Service acknowledged the seriousness of the error and the distress it may have caused. โ€œWe again offer an unreserved apology to Mr. Barry Chandler for the error and reassure him that no malice was intended,โ€ the release said.

The Barbados Police Service also expressed regret for any embarrassment caused by the miscommunication.
