West Indies cricket stars Hayley Matthews and Afy Fletcher have been shortlisted for the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award for June, recognising their outstanding performances in the recent series against South Africa at the Three Ws Oval in Barbados.

Captain Matthews once again showcased her elite ability, continuing her impressive streak in June. She scored 104 runs in the ODI series against South Africa – at an average of 34.66 – and also bagged four wickets at 34.25.

In the T20Is, Matthews dominated with 147 runs at a 73.50 average and strike rate of 120.49. She added two wickets – and led the Windies to a 2-1 series win. She earned the Player of the Series award.

Leg-spinner Fletcher topped the wicket charts in both formats during the series. She claimed nine wickets in the ODIs (average 24, economy 5.53), including a key haul of 4-64 in the second match.

In the T20Is, the 38-year-old took five wickets at an impressive average of 16.20 and economy of 6.75, playing a pivotal role in the series turnaround.

The third player nominated for the award is South Africa top order batter, Tazmin Brits. The award, voted on by ICC’s expert panel and fans, will be announced later this month. Winners will be honoured for their outstanding contributions to their teams. (PS)
