When the 17-year-old, of Garden Land, Country Road, St Michael, reappeared in the District “D” Magistrates’ Court on Monday, it was to pay the compensation ordered in at least one of his theft matters.
Whitehall had pleaded guilty before Magistrate Deborah Beckles to five theft charges: that on October 31, 2023, he stole a $660 Apple Iphone and $25 belonging to Kamal Greenidge; $50 belonging to Deshawn Greenidge; a Samsung cell phone, wallet and $55 belonging to Zatari Browne; Richeed Connelley’s $20, and $55 belonging to Evan Drakes.
On earlier appearances, he denied the charges, but subsequently changed his plea to guilty. He was remanded initially, but was since granted bail.
Whitehall stole the items by entering the changing room at the Lester Vaughan School while the complainants were at cricket practice and on the field playing. He removed the articles from their bags, but a vigilant groundsman saw when he went inside.
On Monday, complainant Evan Drakes was in court and received his $55 in compensation, equivalent to what Whitehall took.
The other matters were adjourned until September 19 and Whitehall remains on bail until then.
Sergeant Verdon Forde prosecuted the matter. (SD)
