The Barbados Port Inc. (BPI) has begun truth verification testing (TVT) for all “stakeholders” who conduct business at the Bridgetown Port.

Last Monday, Port officials held a meeting with staff, stakeholders and representatives of the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU) to inform them of implementation of the procedure, also known as a lie detector test.

BPI chief executive officer David Jean-Marie told the Daily Nation: “The Government of Barbados has mandated truth verification testing for all entities accessing the Port of Bridgetown, commencing July 15, 2025. This is one of the actions prescribed by the Government to strengthen border security and follows broad-based consultations with all agencies as well as workers’ unions. This consultation continues.”

He added that since 2019 the BPI had been using the truth verification testing as part of its employee recruitment policy, following a Government-issued directive. He added that the screening tests were now being extended across the Port, including all relevant stakeholders doing business there.

Jean-Marie pointed out that the Anti-Corruption and Anti-Terrorism Agency was taking lead responsibility for implementation and management of the tests.(MB)
