SSA workers off the job

Some staff at the Sanitation Service Authority (SSA) are off the job this morning.

The Nation was reliably informed it is in connection with the Performance Incentive Pay or a type of bonus, which was disbursed to workers yesterday.

According to the person who was not authorised to speak to the media, some workers seemed to be of the impression that everyone would be paid the same amount of money and it would have been more than what they received.

“They believe everybody is supposed to get the same, but that is not what the union negotiated,” said the source.

The deadline for payment was July 23, 2025.

When contacted, acting general secretary of the National Union of Public Workers, Wayne Waldron, declined to give a statement at that time, but confirmed there was industrial action.

“I prefer to meet with the SSA committee of management before I make any public statements, so that’s where we’re at right now,” he said. (SAT)
