The Barbados Meteorological Services has issued a flash flood watch for Barbados as two tropical waves affect the island this evening and over the weekend.

The first tropical wave is expected to generate moderate to heavy showers and possible thunderstorms from tonight into the morning, with “a medium possibility of flooding”.

The other wave “is expected to bring additional rainfall from late Sunday into Monday [but] weather conditions are expected to improve from Tuesday”, the Met Office added.

A flash flood watch indicates that flooding is possible within a short period of time, typically less than six hours. While it does not guarantee flooding, authorities are advising the public to be alert and prepared.

The watch will remain in effect until 6 a.m. Saturday, July 26, or may be lifted earlier if conditions improve. (BMS)
