Weymouth Wales delivered a huge statement victory in the Caribbean Football Union Club Shield, routing Wolues FC with a commanding 8-0 win in their second Group C first round match on Tuesday at the Ato Boldon Stadium.

The emphatic result confirmed their place in the semi-finals, where they will face Martinique’s reigning champions, Club Franciscain on Thursday at the same venue.

On Sunday Wales had an emphatic 3–1 win over Trinidad and Tobago Police FC, which helped them to end on top of Group C. However, it was their dismantling of Wolues where they had over 70 percent of possession in the game that underscored their status among the best in the 24-team event.

On Tuesday, Wales tore through the defence scoring eight goals. By halftime, they were already leading 3–0and the second half turned into a rout as the Bajans attack ruthlessly exploited every weakness in Wolues’ backline.

The goals came via two penalties by skipper Andre Applewaithe in the 82nd and 88th minutes. This took his tally to four in two games after he also netted two against Police. Two other players also scored twice on Tuesday – Shaquille Stewart (33rd and 70th minutes) and Hadan Holligan (45th and 47th minutes). The other goals came from Kemar Headley (14th) and Armando Lashey (90th minute). (PS)
