While thousands of revellers took to the streets to participate in yesterday’s Flow Grand Kadooment, other Barbadians and visitors opted to pass the day engaging in a variety of recreational activities at beaches and popular picnic spots.

At ‘Miami Beach’ in Enterprise, Christ Church, Sheldon Brathwaite said he was spending the day with his family as they were not big on Crop Over events.

“As a Christian and believer in the Bible, this type of debauchery that goes on, I not involved in that either. More cultural stuff, yes, I would get involved with that side, but not what you all call jumping,” he said.

His wife Cherise admitted she used to jump in her younger days. “I don’t do that anymore, but I used to. I’ve changed my life around. So I am here on the beach with my children. It’s because of them that I came today because they love the sea.”

Dewyn Phillips, who is president of the Jumpstart track and field club, was also at the popular beach.

“Every holiday we celebrate with our student athletes and we couldn’t find no other day but Crop Over day. I have nothing against Crop Over. We are celebrating here . . . . We have our children in the ocean; most of our athletes are here and having a grand time.”
