Stoute finishes eighth in 400m freestyle at Junior Pan American Games

Barbadian Swimmer Heidi Stoute finished eighth in the Junior Pan American Games Women’s 400-metre freestyle finals, at the Olympic Aquatic Centre in Asuncion Paraguay today.

Stoute, a five-time CCCAN champion, entered the championships with a qualifying time 4:28.83 minutes, and this seeded her in heat three with the fastest qualifier from Argentina, Agostina Ariadna Hein (4:08.86).

Stoute finished heat 3 in fourth place, clocking 4:27.10 minutes swimming out of Lane one and Hein wasn’t at her best, but her time of 4:13.41 minutes was fast enough to win the heat and break the meet record.

Having qualified eighth fastest for the final, Stoute maintained a similar time and crossed the line in 4:27:45 minutes, while race winner Hein saved her best performance for the final, when she broke the record once more after she clocked 4:06.90 minutes.

Stoute’s teammate Jaiya Simmons finished third in the women’s 200-metre Butterfly Final B, after she clocked 2:23.95 minutes behind second place Chilean Monsterrat Spielmann (2:20.57minutes), and first place Brazilian Joice Otero (2:16.53 minutes) to be ranked 11th overall. In the lead up to the final, Simmons finished fifth in heat one in 2:26.53 minutes. The three-time CCCAN champion, Simmons entered with a qualifying time of 2:28.90 minutes.

At the time of writing, fifteen-year-old Barbadian swimmer Victor Ashby took to the pool to compete in the men’s 200-metre butterfly in heat three where he finished seventh in 2:17.40 minutes and this set him up for a ‘B’ final appearance. 

Meanwhile, seventeen-year-old Joshua Ross finished men’s 100 Breaststroke ranked 18th after his 1:06.47 minute swim in heat two. (SW)
