Next weekend’s Annual Conference of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) will be used to put plans and policies in place as the party positions itself “as a government in waiting”.
General Secretary Senator Andre Worrell outlined some of the items on the programme earlier today during a media conference at the Office of the Opposition Leader at Hincks Street, The City.
“We reflect on our journey over the past year, and this is an opportunity for us to unite and shape our path ahead,” Worrell said. “The occasion is both a moment to review and a time to recommit ourselves to the vision and principles that have guided our great party over the last 70 years.”
The conference, running from August 22 to 24, will feature discussions on crime, the high cost of living, and other national issues, as well as voting for a new executive team.
“This is our 70th annual conference, we are positioning ourselves as a government in waiting and in order to do that you need to have policies and you need to have plans. And this annual conference allows us that ability as a party to meet together to discuss these policies and initiatives which will help to rescue and to restore Barbados for the people of Barbados. We campaign on a campaign of ‘Honest Voices For The People’ and we intend to show Barbadians that that is what we mean and we intend to show Barbadians by our action that that is who we are,” Worrell said.
The event will conclude with a political rally.
