The Ministry of Transport and Works (MTW) has announced the immediate closure of the Melvin Hill Bridge in St. Joseph after a section of the structure began collapsing.

Officials said the closure is necessary to protect public safety. An MTW team has already carried out preliminary investigations and cordoned off the area.

Motorists approaching the bridge from Bissex or the Parks Road area are advised to divert at Springfield, then proceed through Blackman’s, Horse Hill and Cox Hill. Persons travelling from Dark Hole should also divert at Springfield. Meanwhile, those coming from Bibby’s Lane or Todd’s Corner should reroute through Chimborazo before continuing onto Horse Hill.

The Ministry has thanked the public for their cooperation and apologised for the inconvenience. The bridge will remain closed until further notice.
