The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) is continuing to monitor a tropical wave in the central tropical Atlantic that is expected to affect the island from today.
As of 5 a.m., the system was located near 56/57W south of 17N, approximately 400 kilometres (249 miles) east of Barbados. Forecasters have confirmed that no watches or warnings are currently in effect for the island.
The BMS has forecast mostly cloudy skies with breaks of sunshine, scattered light to moderate showers, periods of rain, and a medium chance of isolated thunderstorms. Higher gusts of wind are also possible near showers. Low-lying areas may experience localized flooding.
Model guidance indicates a low potential for the system to develop further over the next few hours. Overnight convection associated with the wave had decreased significantly, but forecasters caution that there is a possibility of regeneration as it moves across Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean today.
The public is advised to stay informed through the BMS, the Department of Emergency Management (DEM), the Government Information Service (GIS), and local media outlets, as watches or warnings may be issued at short notice.
