Andrew Holness will be sworn in as Prime Minister for a third consecutive term on Tuesday, just shy of two weeks after his Jamaica Labour Party’s (JLP) victory in the September 3 general election.
Final results released by the Electoral Commission of Jamaica (ECJ) confirmed the JLP secured 35 of the 63 seats in Parliament, while the opposition People’s National Party (PNP), led by Mark Golding, won 28.
Holness first became Prime Minister from October 2011 to January 2012, following the resignation of then Prime Minister Bruce Golding, making history at the time, at 39 years old, as the youngest person to lead the government.
Holness returned to power after the JLP’s victory in the February 2016 general election and secured a full term in 2020.
On Tuesday, he will take the Oath of Allegiance and the Oath of Office for a fourth time.
The swearing-in ceremony will take place at 4 p.m. on the Lawns of King’s House, and will be presided over by Governor General Sir Patrick Allen. (CMC)
