Bostic nominated as Barbados’ second president

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley and Opposition Leader Ralph Thorne, have officially nominated former Member of Parliament and retired military officer, The Most Honourable Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey Bostic, to be Barbados’ second president.

The Prime Minister and Opposition Leader reached agreement on the nomination yesterday and completed the process with signatures this morning at Parliament.

The notice was submitted to Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly, Neil Rowe, for official announcement. Parliament is scheduled to vote on the nomination in October.

Once ratified, Bostic’s appointment will take effect on November 30, following the end of current President Dame Sandra Mason’s term on November 29.

Lt. Col. Bostic, affectionately known as “The Colonel,” represented the City of Bridgetown in Parliament from 2013 until 2022. He received widespread acclaim for his leadership of the country’s medical response during the COVID-19 pandemic.
