The Barbados Community College (BCC) has issued a statement following the industrial action taken today by staff members represented by the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW).

The College said the action is related to a decision to fill a vacant post. It added that while discussions are ongoing, efforts are being made to support students’ learning experience and maintain access to essential services.

Principal Annette Alleyne, in the statement, said that the College recognises the role of staff and their right to take industrial action.

““We value our staff and the critical role they play in advancing the vision and mission of the Barbados Community College. We respect their concerns and are committed to working collaboratively. Our focus is on maintaining the quality of education and minimizing disruption to our students. And what is great about the Barbados Community College and what is great about this country is the freedom of expression and the fact that voices are not silenced,” Alleyne said.

The BCC stated that it continues dialogue with staff and their representatives in the hope of reaching an agreement that supports staff well-being while ensuring the College can continue delivering education and training.
