The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) is advising the public of possible deterioration in marine conditions around the island this weekend, linked to an area of low pressure in the northern Atlantic.
Officials emphasised that there are currently no watches or warnings in effect for Barbados regarding this system. However, a High Surf Advisory may be issued tomorrow, Friday.
Choppy sea conditions are expected, particularly along the western and northern coastlines and in open waters, starting as early as Saturday night, 4th October 2025. These conditions are predicted to peak into early next week, with improvements expected thereafter.
Marine users are encouraged to monitor updates via BMS, DEM, GIS websites and social media channels, as well as local media networks. Guidance issued by the National Conservation Commission should also be followed.
The advisory notes that as the remnants of Imelda move northeast across the northern Atlantic, high swells are expected to propagate southward into eastern Caribbean waters. Northerly swells of 1.5 to 2.5 metres are likely from Saturday and could persist into early next week.
This information statement was issued at 12 noon today. (BGIS)
