The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) has issued a Flash-Flood Warning for the island as widespread showers and thunderstorms associated with a tropical wave continue to affect Barbados.

Excessive rainfall throughout Sunday is expected to cause flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas. The BMS reported that up to one inch of rain has already fallen overnight, with an additional two to three inches forecast under mostly cloudy to overcast skies.

Officials have warned that the heavy rainfall may lead to severe flooding, runoff from higher elevations, soil erosion on exposed land surfaces, and rising water levels in ponds and drains. There is also the potential for debris and large objects to be carried by fast-moving water flows, creating dangerous conditions on roads and near coastal areas.

Some roads may become impassable or cut off, and motorists are advised to exercise caution.

The Flash-Flood Warning was issued at 4:30 a.m. on Sunday and will remain in effect until 6 p.m. today, or sooner if conditions improve. (BMS)
