Update: Twenty-six people were injured this morning when a route taxi overturned this morning along Cane Garden Road, St Michael.
Police Communications and Public Affairs Officer, Inspector Ryan Brathwaite, updated the media at the scene, confirming that the accident occurred around 8:55 a.m. as the vehicle, which was travelling toward Bridgetown, lost control and overturned.
Among those injured were 25 schoolchildren and one adult. The injured passengers, whose ages range from 11 to 31, complained of various injuries, none of which are believed to be life-threatening.
Inspector Brathwaite said the mass casualty protocol was activated following the incident. Two doctors, two nurses, two emergency room technicians, and 25 members of the Barbados Defence Forceโincluding medical personnelโresponded to the scene. Six ambulances, headed by ambulance officer Trevor Bynoe and his team, were also deployed.
He added that 23 of the injured were transported to Fast Track while three were taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further medical treatment.
The driver of the vehicle is currently assisting police with investigations at the station as officers work to determine the cause of the collision.

Reports that a route taxi transporting students of The Lester Vaughan School overturned just outside the school.
Six ambulances and personnel from the Barbados Defence Force are currently on the scene at Cane Garden, St Thomas.
A number of students and passengers are said to be injured.
