The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) has issued a High Surf Advisory for the western and northern coastlines of Barbados, effective Tuesday night.
Marine conditions are expected to deteriorate due to large northerly sea swells generated by a frontal system in the central north Atlantic and a western Atlantic high-pressure system. Northerly swells of 1.5 to 2.5 metres are forecast to affect coastal waters, particularly along the coasts of St. Lucy and the west coast down to Bridgetown. Some choppy conditions may also occur along the southern and eastern coasts and in open waters.
Marine users are urged to follow guidance from the National Conservation Commission and other relevant agencies, and to monitor BMS, DEM, and GIS websites, as well as local media, for updates.
Sea conditions are expected to improve towards the end of the week.
A High Surf Advisory is issued when breaking wave action poses a threat to life and property within the surf zone for the next 36 hours.
The BMS will update the advisory at 6 pm on Wednesday, 1st April 2026, or sooner if conditions warrant. (BMS)
