Canon Errington Massiah, 79, the veteran Anglican priest and long-standing Nation Publishing columnist, has died.

Massiah, who passed away today, retired from active duty in 2016 after 45 years as a man of the cloth. However, his column Church News, which was started in 1983, later becoming Outside The Pulpit, continued up until his death.

He was known as the priest who spoke out not just on religious issues but those involving politics, declining morals and sports, and he did so from the pulpit and in the newspaper.

By the time he retired ten years ago as Rector of St Joseph’s Parish Church with St Aidan’s Anglican Church, the cleric had served in several other roles. These included as Chaplain of the Senate, supervisor of the Caribbean Examinations Council, deputy chairman of the National Assistance Board, chairman and member of the Grantley Adams Memorial School Board and as a member of the Combermere board.

He leaves to mourn his wife of 50 years Denise and daughters Andrea and Kean.  (AC)
