The alcoholic drinks which Shernelle Dionne Walcott consumed on Tuesday caused her to misbehave for hours and ultimately landed her before a law court.

The 38-year-old mother of seven of Pioneer Road, Bush Hall, St Michael, confessed to causing a disturbance on Fairchild Street on May 12.
On Tuesday police responded to a request for assistance at Fairchild Street, The City, from Adrian Austin, who reported that a woman was misbehaving next to his car. By the time police arrived Austin had already left the area, but informed them that he would be returning shortly.
While the officers were waiting for him to return, Walcott approached the police vehicle and asked for the services of the same officers, alleging that she was run over by a vehicle.
While police were speaking with her she became loud and accusatory towards several people in the area. Lawman spoke to her about her conduct, but she continued to misbehave. The original complainant, Austin, came back but became frustrated when he realised the woman was under the influence of alcohol.
He then told police he no longer wanted to pursue the matter.
However, numerous people in the area complained to the officers that Walcott had been behaving badly all day. Again, they warned her about her behaviour and instructed her to go on her way. She walked off toward River Road but paused by a route taxi which was parked. Walcott held on to the van’s wing mirror and dislocated it, all the while speaking loudly and cursing.
When the police officers spoke to her again, she continued to be abusive and disrespectful to them as well. That continued even as she was being arrested and after she arrived at the police station.
When Walcott, who is not known to the court, was asked by the Chief Magistrate Douglas Frederick to explain her actions, she said: “Sir, I was by the bar drinking.”
“You were drunk?” the court asked.
“I had in drinks,” Walcott replied.
Asked how many children she had, Walcott said “seven.”
“You have seven children and walking ’bout drinking so much rum? You have to straighten up and fly right,” the court advised.
The mother was placed on a bond to keep the peace for six months. If she breaches the bond, the punishment will be one month in prison.
In determining sentence, Chief Magistrate Frederick said he did not wish to put any hardship on her nor to keep her away from her children.
Walcott gave him the assurance that she is not “gine back there”. (Nation News)
