Alpha Sharks win meet

For the first time in seven years, Alpha Sharks Swim Club are champions of the Sonia O’Neal Memorial Aquatics Centre Invitational Meet after four days of intense swimming at the Aquatic Centre.

Having started Sunday, the final day, with a 530-point lead, they ended proceedings with 1 464 points to emphatically snap Pirates Swim Club’s six-year winning streak.

Hightide Stingrays were second with 769 points, while Pirates ended the competition in third place with 711 points.

Black Sands Swim Squad’s Kione Deshong produced the day’s headline performance when he stormed to victory in the Boys’ 13-14 50 metres breaststroke in 32.00 seconds. In doing so, he broke the existing 32.54 record set in 2016 by Nkosi Dunwoody.
