West Indies will be without one of their premier fast bowlers for today’s third and final One-Day International against Sri Lanka at Sabina Park, with Shamar Joseph unavailable for selection due to personal reasons.

Cricket West Indies (CWI) confirmed yesterday that the 26-year-old right-arm fast bowler has returned home to Guyana and will miss the series decider in Kingston.

However, there is good news for West Indies supporters, as Joseph is expected to rejoin the squad in time for the opening match of the three-game T20 International series, which begins on Thursday at the same venue. The full squad for that series is yet to be announced.

In a brief statement CWI noted: “Fast bowler Shamar Joseph will miss Monday’s third ODI against Sri Lanka at Sabina Park due to personal reasons. Joseph has returned home but is expected to rejoin the squad in time for the start of the three-match T20I series, which bowls off on Thursday at Sabina Park.” Joseph went wicketless in the opening ODI, and conceeded 38 runs from his eight overs. He played well with 23 not out off 22 balls at the back end of the West Indies run chase which fell short of the target.
