Firearms Division ‘the right move’

Attorney General Wilfred Abrahams has defended Government’s decision to establish a specialised Firearms Division of the High Court, arguing that Barbados can no longer afford to treat gun crime as an ordinary criminal matter as the social and psychological impact of firearm-related violence continues to spread across communities.

Speaking during debate on the Supreme Court Of Judicature (Amendment) Bill, 2026

in the House of Assembly yesterday, he said the creation of the Gun Court was a direct response to growing public anxiety over violent crime and an acknowledgement that firearms offences now required a dedicated judicial framework.

“We have heard the people of Barbados. We live here with you. We are tired of it too,” he declared.
