All fish markets and fish landing sites across Barbados will close early today, Monday, following the sudden passing of Chief Fisheries Officer Dr. Shelly-Ann Cox.

The Ministry of the Environment, National Beautification and Fisheries said the facilities will shut at 2:00 p.m. to allow staff to access grief counselling and to mark respect for Dr. Cox’s service to the sector.

Markets and landing sites are expected to resume normal operations on Tuesday, June 16.

The Ministry thanked the public for its understanding, noting Dr. Cox’s long-standing commitment to advancing Barbados’ fishing communities.
