Barbados under flash-flood watch

Barbados is currently under a flash-flood watch, forecast to end at 6 p.m. today.

The Barbados Meteorological Services says a tropical wave, enhanced by a favourable upper-level pattern, is generating cloudy to overcast skies and light to heavy showers.

Parts of the island have already recorded up to a half-inch of rainfall for the afternoon, with accumulations of one to two inches being possible.

A flash-flood watch is issued when heavy or excessive rainfall in a short period of time (generally less than six hours) could result in flash flooding within the watch area, but does not mean that flooding will occur.

The watch may be terminated sooner than 6 p.m. if conditions warrant. (PR/SAT)
