The man who died during a police-involved shooting in The City on Friday evening has been identified as 36-year-old Edgrick Livingston Yearwood of Maxwell, Christ Church.
Police said the incident occurred around 6:03 p.m. along Fairchild Street at its junction with Bay Street.
Initial investigations revealed that Yearwood had been arrested in connection with an assault against a female. Police said he was identified by the female and, while being transported in a police vehicle, attempted to disarm an officer by pulling his firearm.
A struggle then ensued, resulting in the police officer being shot. The officer was transported in a police vehicle to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, where he was treated and discharged.
Police said Yearwood also received gunshot injuries and succumbed at the scene. A medical doctor later examined the body and pronounced death.
Investigations are continuing.
