Shai Hope stamped his authority with the bat as Guyana Amazon Warriors showcased their depth with a third consecutive victory in the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
Hope played some delightful shots as he ended on 47 not out off just 26 balls, which included two boundaries and four sixes – a mixture of power-hitting and elegant array of strokes.
It was the backbone of their fantastic seven-wicket win over Antigua and Barbuda Falcons on Sunday night at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, in Antigua.
At the other end left-hander Shimron Hetmyer went into full blast and demonstrated his tremendous batting dexterity – 49 off 19 balls with six sixes. This propelled Guyana to 121-3 off just 9.5 overs and they easily erased the victory target after the home team was shot out for 116 off 17 overs.
Earlier Shamar Joseph bowled with sheer pace and accuracy as he topped the 145kph mark. He cleaned bowled Alzarri Joseph and Jayden Seales with magnificent yorkers in the “death” stage to end with three wickets for 22 runs.
This engineered a batting collapse as the last five Falcons wickets fell for eight runs in the space of 12 balls, while the large contingent of Guyanese fans enjoyed the pulsating events. (PS)
