On August 26, 2026, the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) released new 2025 firearms trace data reports for Mexico, Canada, and the Caribbean.
The reports make clear that firearms originating in the United States continue to fuel gun violence and instability across the Western Hemisphere. In the Caribbean, the percentage of guns traced to the US in many countries is even more staggering.
In the Bahamas, 99.1 per cent of the 221 firearms originated in the US. In Jamaica, it was 90.3 per cent of the 946 traced firearms. In Dominica, the US was responsible for 92.1 per cent of traced firearms. St Lucia and Trinidad and Tobago were at 73 per cent and 73.1 per cent, respectively.
In this region, the Dominican Republic had the lowest percentage, and still 53.6 per cent of 695 firearms originated in the US, with another 10.8 per cent of undetermined origin. While Barbados was in the 2022 report, it was not included in the 2023, 2024 or 2025 reports.
