HYDERABAD – Darren Sammy helped bundle out Delhi Daredevils for the lowest Indian Premier League (IPL) total in two years, and then returned with the bat to ensure his Sunrisers Hyderabad grabbed a six-wicket victory yesterday.
Sammy earned two wickets for ten runs from his three overs of medium pace as Delhi, opting to bat first, folded for 80 in the final over at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
The total was the fourth lowest ever in the IPL.
Sri Lanka fast bowler Thisara Perera (2-11) and South Africa speedster Dale Steyn (2-21) weighed in with two wickets apiece.
In reply, Sunrisers lost wickets steadily but Sammy, batting at number four, struck an unbeaten 18 from 20 balls to see the hosts to their target in the 14th over.
Opener Shikhar Dhawan top-scored with 22 from 16 balls.
Sammy was named Man of the Match.
The victory moved Sunrisers into third spot on 14 points, behind Chris Gayle’s second-placed Royal Challengers Bangalore (14 points) and top-of-the-table Chennai Super Kings (18), with Windies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo. (CMC)
