The general manager?of Discovery Bay Hotel is refuting claims that it is laying off staff for six months to avoid paying workers their due.
Staff are saying that when the hotel closes its doors on Friday, June 1, for refurbishment, many of them will not receive vacation pay or unemployment benefits because they do not qualify.
That is because the majority of the 60 employees have been working at the Holetown, St James hotel for six months or less.
But general manager Hal Arthur denied the allegation, saying that he was amused that the hotel was being accused of employing these tactics.  
“Any employee who is laid off will be paid vacation pay and any other monies due to them,” he told the DAILY?NATION.
