More rain, possible flooding forecast for Barbados

Barbados remains under a flood watch until noon today.

In this instance, a flood watch is issued when the conditions are favourable for flooding within the next 12 hours, but that does not mean flooding will occur.

A release from the Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) says maximum rainfall accumulations of 100 to 150mm in heavy showers and periods of rain are forecast for today.

A tropical wave in conjunction with a favourable upper-level environment is producing unsettled conditions across the island and radar data overnight indicated about 4 to 6 inches of rainfall accumulation around 100 to 150km east of Barbados

This excessive amount of rainfall accumulation can present life-threatening floods, particularly during the afternoon, and residents and visitors are urged to monitor the situation closely via official updates from the BMS over the next six to 12 hours.
