The 15 employees of the Barbados Revenue Authority (BRA) who were tested for COVID-19 by the Ministry of Health as part of a contact tracing programme are all free of the virus.

Acting Chief Medical Officer, Dr Kenneth George informed nationnews.com this morning that the tests done on Wednesday had all come back negative.

The tests had been conducted out of an abundance of caution, and on insistence of BRA officials, after a Barbadian woman who had arrived from the United Kingdom on September 19, had tested positive on September 24.

George had indicated Wednesday night public health officials always believed there was minimal risk of the woman spreading the virus, based on their investigations.

He also said that with more visitors coming to Barbados and with the new COVID-19 protocols in place, the Ministry of Health would be ramping up its contact tracing regime going forward.

BRA issued a statement today noting that the Holetown office is being sanitised as part of BRA’s incident response procedures and will reopen on Friday, October 2, 2020.

“The Authority thanks staff and members of the public for their cooperation in this matter, as well as the Ministry for its continued vigilance in the midst of this pandemic.

“The public is reminded to follow the health protocols when conducting business at the Authority,” BRA said. (BA)
