Flanked by two of his colleagues, a handcuffed Constable Jason Andre Callender was led off to prison yesterday after he was convicted of raping a then 16-year-old girl ten years ago.

The unanimous guilty verdicts on the two-count indictment seemed to shock the suspended lawman, who slowly closed his eyes before lowering his head into his hands and shaking it in apparent disbelief.

“Tell my father don’t tell my daughter anything. I just lost a custody battle because of this thing,” he said.

Callender, 37, of 6th Avenue, Durants Village, St James, was on trial in the No. 5A Supreme Court for having unlawful sexual intercourse with the now 26-year-old woman, between June 1 and October 7, 2010, and committing an act of serious indecency against her between October 6 and 7, 2010. (HLE)
