Barbados Labour Party candidate for St George North Toni Moore paid the deposit for the November 11 by-election this morning and said she was feeling energised, optimist and highly confident.
Moore arrived at the National Housing Corporation just after 10 a.m., where she was met by campaign committee members, ministers and supporters, including her campaign manager, MP for St George South Dwight Sutherland and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Senator Dr Jerome Walcott.
After making her payment Moore, the general secretary of the Barbados Workers Union, spoke about how much support she was receiving in the constituency and admonished those who thought she was “selling out” workers.
“This is a tremendous opportunity to be the voice of labour and to be part of the decision-making process in the Lower House. In time, the conscience of those who call me a sellout will convict them as to what is imagined by them,” she said.
Moore is contesting the seat left vacant by former long-serving member of Parliament Gline Clarke who is taking up a post as High Commissioner at Ottawa. (CA)
