With the nomination process out of the way, United Progressive Party (UPP) candidate in the St George North by-election, Ambrose Grosvenor, says he is confident that his year of rubbing shoulders with the constituents and getting to know their concerns, will bear dividend when the votes are tallied next month.
Grosvenor, who arrived at the Valley Resource Centre with little fanfare on Monday, completed the formalities while being observed by a small crowd of supporters, including party founder Lynette Eastmond. He was proposed by Ian Belle and seconded by Keisha Kirton.
Speaking to the media following the completion of the paperwork with the Electoral and Boundaries Commission, Grosvenor said he was satisfied that he has demonstrated an intimate knowledge of the needs of the constituents. He also contended that out of all the candidates vying for the seat left vacant by Gline Clarke, he is the only one that has a track record of agitating on behalf of the people of St George North.
“My slogan has been ‘Representation Matters’ and that is not something that is simply a cliché. That is why you are not finding today a carnival as what we would have seen from the other parties this morning in order to manufacture momentum,” he said.
“I know that I travel around St George and get the issues of the people first-hand. It is for this reason that you would never hear me say that I am surprised by issues such as persistent water outages that affect residents. We are talking about 900 people that for at least three times per week are without water. If you are offering yourself as a candidate in St George North and are not aware these pressing issues, then morally you are not fit to be a candidate,” he said. (CLM)
