Grosvenor: Unique connection to constituents

United Progressive Party’s candidate Ambrose Grosvenor says he is the right man for the job as Member of Parliament (MP) in St George North, as he is familiar with the constituency and its issues, and is the only candidate to have agitated on behalf of the people.

The DAILY NATION caught up with Grosvenor on the campaign trail in Jericho, St George yesterday where he was out with party supporter Camillus Lewis.

Grosvenor is contesting the vacancy left by former MP Gline Clarke in the by-election scheduled for next Wednesday. He is running against Barbados Labour Party’s Toni Moore, Democratic Labour Party’s Floyd Reifer, Solutions Barbados’ Grenville Phillips II, People’s Party for Democracy and Development David Walrond, and The Bajan Free Party’s Alex Mitchell.

“At the end of the day, the current administration will still have 28 seats, the predominant amount of seats in Parliament. What those two persons on the other side need to do is, agitate and agitate. I submit to you, of all the candidates, I am the one with the history of agitation, and have been agitating for the constituents of St George North for a very long time,” he said.

In addition to Jericho, Grosvenor also visited Retreat and Cottage, which he said he is familiar with as his paternal grandmother lived in Retreat and he was born in Sweet Bottom.

“I bring a familiarity with St George and a visibility that is not found in any other candidate, and that is what makes me unique; that connection that I have with the residents of St George and the issues of St George.

“If I can do that now when I am not in Parliament, given the profile that comes with being in Parliament, then I am very certain I can be a very effective MP for St George North,” he declared, adding that he preferred the one-on-one interaction with constituents.

One of the biggest issues facing the constituency of St George North was the many water outages during the week. Grosvenor said every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, morning from about nine o’clock the water was turned off.

“It comes back on and then Tuesday and Thursday night it is turned back off again. That is not one off; that has been the schedule for a long time in Jericho, Paradise, Roach Village and neighbouring districts. When I calculate the number of electors in the districts affected by water outages that are scheduled, it is about ten per cent of the population of St George North,” he said. (RA)
