Regional weather officials to meet

PORT OF SPAIN – The Caribbean Meteorological Council (CMC) will commemorate its 60th anniversary later this month, focusing on enhancing the capability of member countries of the Caribbean Meteorological Organisation (CMO) to deliver authoritative, accessible, user oriented information and services.

The CMO is a specialised agency of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the CMC was established in 1962, to further the regionalisation of meteorology in the Anglophone Caribbean.

The 60th anniversary will be observed November 19-20 under the theme “Better Services for Societal Needs”.

The official opening of the CMC’s 60th session will take place on November 19, and the virtual meeting will be attended by the Secretary General of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO), Professor Petteri Taalas.

The CMO said that preceding the Council’s meeting the board of Governors of the Barbados-based Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (CIMH) will meet on November 16-17 followed by the annual meeting of Directors of Meteorological Services on November 18.

These meetings will be attended by government ministers as well as representatives from the Caribbean Disaster and Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), The University of the West Indies, the United Nation World Meteorological Organisation (WMO), International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), the World Bank, and other stakeholders.
