Prosecutor after 18 months in jail

There is no way, declared a prosecutor, that reaching into a boy’s underwear and squeezing his testicles could be considered an “overzealous form of discipline”.

So said Principal Crown Counsel Krystal Delaney as she blasted the evidence of a number of character witnesses who had spoken on behalf of teacher’s aide Rico Ricardo Edwards in the No. 5 Supreme Court.

Edwards, of Sergeant’s Park, Foul Bay, St Philip, was found guilty, at an earlier Session of the Continuous Sittings, of indecently assaulting a then 11-year-old boy on January 7, 2016.

Delaney said “some of the most disturbing evidence” had come from the witnesses called on Edwards’ behalf.

She pointed to one who said Edwards did not “fit the bill” of a child molester, and to another who described Edwards’ actions as an overzealous form of punishment. (HLE)
