The Herbert family is grieving over the untimely death of fish cleaner Alston Herbert.
Police reported that the 66-year-old was killed on Sunday along the Princess Alice Highway around 8:45 p.m., just outside the compound of the Bridgetown Fisheries Complex. He was crossing the road when he was involved in a collision with a van driven by a 42-year-old man who lives in Newcastle, St John. The driver was unhurt.
Ambulance personnel found no signs of life, and Herbert, who police said had no fixed place of abode, was pronounced dead at the scene.
His was the 12th road death for the year.
Three of Herbert’s siblings, who live in Herbert Land, Codrington Hill, St Michael, said only four out of eight of them were still alive.
“He was originally from Chapman Lane but was raised here. However, he no longer lived here, he did his own thing, but he used to come to check up on us,” said Esme Ward.
Lolita Gill said her brother was a “cool person” who never got into any arguments and spent all his time at the Bridgetown market. (CA)
