His best friend and cousin was killed and he was the victim of two robberies.

And it was those events, said Damien Troy Vaughn, which led to him meeting an unknown man and buying a gun and 45 bullets for his protection.

“When you know better, you should do better and it was a lack of better judgement that I took steps to obtain an illegal weapon,” Vaughn said yesterday.

The 31-year-old butler of Mayers Road, My Lord’s Hill, St Michael, was back in the No. 2 Supreme Court yesterday, after pleading guilty earlier in the Sessions, to having the firearm and ammunition in his possession on June 6, 2019.

The first-time offender admitted there was no way he could justify possession of the illegal items. However, he said he would try to “give the court an understanding” about the type of person he was and why he had the weapon. (HLE)
