Security company G4S says it will be working hand in hand with the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU) to bring solutions to its embattled staff.
More than 50 G4S workers picketed the company’s offices at Brighton, Black Rock, St Michael, on Tuesday demanding resolution to a number of grievances they claimed went back more than six years.
After the protest, a meeting was convened with the union and the Labour Department to fast-track a solution to the issues.
Yesterday, in a media statement, the company vowed to be part of the process.
“G4S Secure Solutions (Barbados) Limited is currently working with, and will continue to work with the Barbados Workers’ Union to negotiate all outstanding collective agreements to reach an outcome that is fair to both parties and considers the challenging realities of the economic pressures brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic,” the company said.
“G4S understands the issues of concern for the BWU, and is committed to enhancing employee relations,” it added.
The security entity also said it enjoyed positive and constructive working relationships with unions that represented its employees, and hoped to reach a resolution to this matter in the near future.
“As negotiations continue, G4S and the BWU are committed to ensuring operational continuity and safeguarding our customer sites with qualified security staff,” the statement concluded. (BA)
