A substantial fine imposed on Jermaine Yohan Sebastian Adams should send a message that ammunition offences will be dealt with severely by the courts.
So said Justice Pamela Beckles as she ordered him to pay $12 000 in six months or spend three years in prison.
“This substantial fine should send a message that offences of this nature will be dealt with severely with the imposition of large fines or, in the appropriate cases, even imprisonment,” she said in the No. 5 Supreme Court yesterday.
Adams, 35, of Whopping, Orange Hill, St James, was back before the court after pleading guilty at an earlier Session of the Continuous Sittings, to having 105 rounds of ammunition on August 28, 2011.
He has seven previous convictions – two for theft, two for possession of cannabis and one each for having an offensive weapon, causing a disturbance and assault. (HLE)
