One hundred-year-old British war veteran Colonel (Hon) Sir Tom Moore says despite the ravages of COVID-19, it will pass.
Sir Tom, who made international headlines by walking within the confines of his home to raise more than £30 million for Britain’s National Health Service, is in Barbados on a 17-day holiday, courtesy of the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. and British Airways.
He was hosted to “high tea” with Governor General Dame Sandra Mason, and Barbadian centenarians and World War II veterans – 103-year-old Ena Collymore-Woodstock and 101-year-old Elder Bishop – at St Ann’s Fort, Garrison, yesterday. They were entertained with a display by the band of the Barbados Defence Force.
Minister of Elder Affairs Cynthia Forde and Minister of Home Affairs Wilfred Abrahams were among the guests.
Remarking on the effects of the coronavirus, Sir Tom told the media: “I don’t think what we have now is much worse than we have had before. We shall get through this one as we have all the other ones. We always went through to the end and that is what we should do now with COVID. Tomorrow is a good day.” (GC)
