SOME CHURCH LEADERS are calling for more people to be allowed in the sanctuary to facilitate online services, instead of the three mandated by Government in its new COVID-19 restrictions.
On Saturday, Attorney General Dale Marshall announced a new Emergency Management (COVID-19) Protocol (Special Curfew) Directive 2021 for the period January 2 to 14, which stated that only three people, including the officiant, should be present for worship. However, funerals are allowed ten mourners, the officiant, funeral director and any necessary staff.
Apostle Dr Lucille Baird, of Mount Zion Missions Inc. Barbados Foursquare Church, said it was difficult to conduct service with only three people. She wants Government to increase the number to ten as was done in the past.
“We’ve been here before so we reverted to the live streaming that we used back in March. What I found, it was very difficult to conduct a proper service for an international audience with only three persons present,” she said. (RA)
