On Tuesday, more businesses announced their closure as a result of the growing number of COVID-19 cases in Barbados.

Collins Limited said the Warrens branch would be closed “until further notice” after three employees there came into contact with an individual who later tested positive.

The remaining two employees already underwent testing and are awaiting their results.

An employee at the Belmont Branch of the Barbados Public Workers’ Co-Operative Credit Union Limited also tested positive for COVID-19. Another employee at that branch, as well as one at Mile and a Quarter in St Peter were identified for contact tracing and are currently in self-quarantine awaiting test results.

All branches of the credit union are now closed.

A staff member at the People’s Market returned a positive result after attending one of the recent “Super Spreader” events. That person has not been at work since December 31, 2020, but all other staff underwent testing.

The Loft, located in Holetown, St James, also announced its closure after a patron who visited on Old Year’s Night tested positive for the coronavirus.

An employee of the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) is said to have tested positive and other staff members are also being tested for possible secondary exposure. Contact tracing commenced at the statutory corporation and face-to-face interactions at the Customer Service Centre are now suspended.

Barbados now has 692 cases of COVID-19 according to statistics from the Ministry of Health and Wellness. There are 361 people in isolation. (SAT)
