Ambassador Elizabeth Thompson, head of the Health Communications Team, announced during a live COVID-19 press briefing on Monday that $3 million to be used for hazard pay has been released to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Thompson said this money should be available to workers soon.

The ambassador also announced that psychological, psychiatric or counselling support would be available to frontline workers caring for coronavirus (COVID-19) patients at Harrison Point, St Lucy. She said this would assist those dealing with challenging situations.

Minister of Education Santia Bradshaw, Dr Corey Forde and Dr Anton Best also gave addresses during the briefing.

Thompson, who is still in quarantine, was speaking from her hotel room. She returned from New York on Saturday to take up her new post, which was announced by Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley during a press conference on Friday.

The Health Communications Team was established to boost communication between the Ministry of Health and Wellness and the public about the COVID-19 pandemic. (KG)
