Restless under quarantine

As frustration mounts among Barbadians and visitors, Ministry of Health officials moved with haste yesterday to quell an unsettling situation at the Paragon quarantine centre in Christ Church.

The airwaves were flooded with complaints, social media platforms inundated with posts and media houses bombarded with calls by people screaming about being at their wits’ end waiting for word on their COVID-19 status.

Reports reaching the DAILY NATION indicated that people at the Barbados Defence Force’s Paragon base complained vociferously about the time it was taking to get back their results. Some even packed their bags and threatened to break out, causing officials to call in the police.

Acting Chief Medical Officer Dr Kenneth George said results had been determined for people who were at the facility for nine and ten days and they would be released between yesterday and today.

“There is one individual who has been there for ten days and four or five who have been there for about nine days. We have made a determination of their results and those persons are going to be released today,” he said, while reiterating there had been a backlog of COVID-19 results overall. (MB/AC)
