Barbadian quarter-miler and national record-holder Jonathan Jones says he is prepared to dip under 45 seconds again to qualify for the rescheduled Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games slated for this summer.

There is a huge level of uncertainty surrounding whether athletes will have to clock new times to compete at the biggest sporting event from July 23 to August 8.

In 2019, the 21-year-old University of Texas junior ran a personal best time of 44.63 seconds to finish fourth in the men’s 400 metres final at the NCAA Outdoor Track And Field Championships.

He became the first Barbadian to run under 45 seconds in the quarter-mile and was well within the Olympic standard of 44.90 seconds set by the International Association of Athletics Federations.

And Jones believes he is more than capable of producing stellar performances during his upcoming 2021 track and field season which starts on Saturday. (AGB)
